Typeface at HIFF

April 22, 2010

As you may know HIFF, Hawaii International Film Festival, is well underway, in fact it’s almost over. But there are still a couple days left to catch some great films. Today at 6:30 is the showing of Typeface, a documentary about the Hamilton Wood Type museum in Two Rivers, WI. What seems to be a forgotten craft comes to life when this museum fills up with designers, typographers and letterpress lovers from all over the midwest. Weekend workshops allow people to explore image making with letterforms and experience hands on printing techniques that are quickly becoming a cult craft, like many others, in our digital age.

Other films showing tonight include: Waking Sleeping Beauty, a story of how Disney regained it’s animated magic after a decade of flops – and The Chef of South Polar, a Japanese documentary chronicling the lives of these scientists and researchers at the South Pole and how they become a close friends despite the harsh conditions.
